It's All About The Deck
This rundown old back yard was transformed into a fantastic entertainment garden with the construction of a large deck and shade pergola, a new concrete patio and a fire pit with bench seating.
The new Mangaris Wood Deck is just over 750 sqft in area and creates a large level entertainment area as it wraps around the back of the house. There is a BBQ Island on the deck. Above the deck is a 42ft long and 14ft wide shade pergola providing much needed shade in the garden.
You step down from the deck to a Poured in Place concrete patio area. The gaps are planted out with selected ground covers. Further along is a gravel patio area with a custom designed seat bench that includes a seat back to match the deck wood. The bench is perfect to sit on and enjoy the natural gas fire pit.
The garden was planted out with a number of fruit trees and plants to provide flowers and color to the garden areas.
The garden has a LED Low Voltage lighting system to highlight plants and light up the fire pit and pergola areas. The latest Wi-Fi controlled irrigation system is installed to manage water use in the garden.

All About The Entertainment...
The brief for this garden was simple:  "We never use our garden and we want to. Just do what you do. Please..."
We removed the last remnants off the grass, tore out a large and very messy tree that was in the way and demolished an addition to the back of the garage that was falling apart. Now we could begin our work.
We extended the existing Arizona Flagstone patio to enlarge the patio area off the house and built a very large BBQ structure with a raised bar counter. Holes were drilled into the counter so umbrellas could be set up to shade the BBQ. 
A two level pergola shade structure and arbor was built to cover the patio area and link the detached garage to the house. We built a vault and partially buried the spa into the ground to give the impression it was built in. Around it we installed both a raised solid patio and a lower open patio planted with ground covers to provide access to spa.
In the large area where the addition used to be, we covered the concrete foundations with Arizona Stone to match the old and new patio areas. We built a natural gas fire pit and created over 20ft of bench seating. 
The garden was planted out with masses of flowering plants and the small remaining area was covered with synthetic turf to reduce the maintenance to almost zero.
We installed a new Basketball backboard and hoop on the garage, painted in the free throw lines and built and installed a large net structure to stop the balls going over the fence.
