Stacked Stone Spa, Natural Stone Pool Coping, Paverstone Patio and Large Pergola Shade Structure

The Escape
This home had a full front and back garden make over. In the back we tore out the multi level damaged brick patio and the weathered deck. We drained the pool and the Spa and removed most of the plants and the old light and irrigation system.
We retiled the pool and the spa and installed a new natural stone coping around both. We hand cut the same natural stone and used it to stack the facade of the spa.
We installed a new irrigation and drainage system for the back garden and then installed around 1200sqft of paverstone patio area. We rebuilt the BBQ structure and added a new concrete serving counter area. The same stacked stone was used to for the backsplash of the counter. A small Pergola structure was built over the BBQ to reflect the new large shade pergola we built over an area of the patio to shade the house and reduce the afternoon sun shining into the house. Outdoor fans were installed in to the pergola to cool the dining area underneath. 
The large deck area substrucutre was rebuilt and reinforced and a new redwood deck of 560sqft was installed. Both the deck and the hew hand railings were finished with Penofin wood oil. A natural gas fire pit with matching stacked stone was constructed on the desk area.
All the plants planted in the garden were selected with the location and water conservation in mind.
An extensive LED Low Voltage lighting system was installed to highlight the garden features and plants and a sound system and speakers were installed in the pergola structures and throughout the garden.
The front garden was fully renovated as well with new stone steps and front entrance, 1200sqft of paverstone driveway, a full low water irrigation system and LED Low Voltage lighting. the lower driveway was installed as a drivable grass area for parking.

Sherman Oaks Retreat:

This back yard was hot, dry and never used. The old two level Saltillo patio and long narrow lawn area were not suited to the family's need or wants.

The brief was to create a “retreat” for the family.

What we designed and installed was indeed that…we started by demolishing everything so we could begin with a clean site. We built one of the biggest BBQ and raised bar counters that we have ever done. It has a large BBQ, Fridge, Double sink, Drawers and Additional Storage. We constructed a 500sqft redwood deck off the house. With the new French Doors open, the deck extends the house out into the garden. The deck is covered by a large beam pergola shade structure, which we extended out to cover the BBQ Bar counter as well. Both the deck and the pergola were finished with a clear coat of wood oil to enhance the wood and protect the structures.

Stepping down from the deck to the new paver patio, leads to the BBQ and newly built-in Fire Pit and Bench Seating. The gas Fire Pit heat can be enjoyed while sitting on the “baseball” styled bench seats,  which were finished to tie into the rest of the oiled wood.

Capping off the new retreat is the above ground Spa and outdoor shower.

The garden was further enclosed by adding lattice privacy screens around the entire space with screen plants added to grow in. Detail planting and Low Voltage lights add the final touch to the space.
